Punjab Launches Province-Wide Damage Survey
Punjab Launches Province-Wide Damage Survey; In the wake of severe flooding and infrastructure damage across Punjab province. The government of Punjab has initiated a large-scale, province-wide damage survey, under direct orders from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The objective is to comprehensively assess the losses of homes, agriculture, infrastructure and livelihoods, to expedite relief, rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts.
Directive and Scope
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed all relevant departments to mobilise survey teams across flood-affected districts. The directive came after flood-waters inundated large swathes of the province, inflicting damage on houses, farmlands, roads, bridges and other vital infrastructure. According to official sources, the survey covers 26 to 27 districts and involves over 1,600 teams deployed in the field. This is one of the largest damage-assessment efforts ever undertaken in the province.
Data & Preliminary Findings
Within just a few days of launching the survey, initial findings have surfaced. More than 48,071 acres of agricultural land have been assessed as flood-damaged. Over 8,305 houses have been identified as destroyed or severely affected. Additionally, health facilities, educational institutions and other public service centres have also sustained damage: out of 742 surveyed health facilities, 395 were damaged, 315 partially damaged, and 80 fully or severely damaged. Livestock losses are also reported, with thousands of animals impacted.

Mechanism & Monitoring
The provincial government has established a system to monitor progress of the survey and subsequent relief work. District- and tehsil-level relief committees have been formed, and survey forms, mobile applications and a central monitoring dashboard are being used for transparent tracking. The involvement of multiple departments — including revenue, agriculture, the Urban Unit, and in some cases the Pakistan Army — underscores the inter-agency coordination needed for such a large effort.
Moreover, commissioners, deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners have been instructed to fully assist and monitor survey teams in affected districts. The CM’s office insists that the process must be “transparent, fast and accountable”.
Purpose & Significance
The survey is not simply about gathering statistics. Its key purpose is to identify eligible victims and affected zones so relief and rehabilitation can be administered effectively. By generating verified data on damages, the government intends to allocate financial assistance, rebuild public services, restore infrastructure and support livelihoods. In a statement, the Chief Minister said that rapid assessment is vital to move from emergency response to long-term recovery.
Challenges & Road Ahead
Nevertheless, the undertaking faces several challenges. The sheer scale of damage — hundreds of villages, thousands of homes, acres of crops — means that completing the survey thoroughly will take time. Some remote areas may pose accessibility issues. Weather conditions, local security and logistical bottlenecks could slow progress.
Also critical will be the follow-up: assessing what data reveals, converting it into action, disbursing aid, rebuilding infrastructure and supporting affected communities. The government has set high expectations, but execution will be closely watched.

Conclusion
By issuing the province-wide damage survey under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s orders, the Punjab government has taken a decisive step to manage the fallout from severe flooding. The early data already illustrates major losses across housing, agriculture and public services. If successfully executed and followed through with timely rehabilitation, the initiative could mark an important benchmark in disaster governance in Pakistan. For citizens affected by the floods, the survey offers hope that their plight will be recognised and addressed.
